Every Thought Captive

"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ . . . (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NASB)."

There is a war going on—and we are in the middle of it. In fact, it is all about us. The Devil's desire is to defeat us in our Christian life. And many Christians are very much defeated.

In this war, there will be many battles. The outcome of these battles determines who wins the war.

In spiritual warfare, every thought is a battle. Every time you entertain a thought contrary to the will of God, you are giving power to the Devil in some way. But as you keep your thinking under control, the Devil becomes increasingly powerless; he can't sabotage your life anymore.

Don't allow yourself to hate other people or be afraid of them. Don't worry. Don't entertain thoughts of doing what you know God has forbidden. Controlling your thoughts will change your life. But remember, every thought is important.

When you slip up, as we all do, confess the sin to God and make an effort not to repeat the sin. Use all your spiritual weapons—everything you are and have is at stake.

When Christians are defeated, it's because their thoughts are out of control. But change really is possible! And the Bible tells us how: "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2 NLT)."
