How to Make Difficult Decisions

"Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken (Psalm 55:22 NASB)."

"Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed (Proverbs 15:22 NIV)."

"He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But he who walks wisely will be delivered (Proverbs 28:26 NASB)."

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you (Psalm 32:8 NASB)."

"Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray (James 5:13 NIV)."

We all have to make difficult decisions from time to time—decisions where we are stressed and don't know what to do. Here's a proven biblical approach to this issue. Follow these steps.

  • Pray.
  • Trust God—don't freak out. And walk wisely—don't rely on your heart.
  • Consider Scripture—but recognize that there are sometimes gray areas. Everything is not black and white.
  • Seek wise counsel—preferably more than one person.
  • Turn the problem over to God. Tell Him you'll do whatever He says to do—or not do.
  • WAIT for the peace of God to appear and provide guidance. When this happens, you will know what to do and have peace about the issue. God's guidance always comes within the context of peace.
