Ignore the Devil

"Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8 NLT)."

We are in a spiritual battle. But sometimes using all our spiritual weapons is precisely the wrong approach. When something unpleasant comes to mind, often the right approach is to simply stop thinking about it. By refusing to entertain the thought, we are effectively resisting the Devil and the spiritual attack falters.

Even if the thought did not come from a demon, you will still come out ahead by not thinking about negatives. It is not necessary that we understand everything that we experience, only that we do whatever the Bible tells us to do. And the Bible tells us not to entertain negative thoughts.

When we fail to heed this biblical imperative, we can become defeated even while using Scripture! We can "make a mountain out of a molehill."

For example, when something somebody said starts to bother us, we might pray about it, analyze it, rebuke the Devil, cast our burden on the Lord etc. etc. etc. All the while focusing on the issue. A minor issue becomes a very big issue emotionally because we are focusing on it. The Devil wins.

However, if we had simply refused to think about the issue, it would have gone away and our peace would have returned. Experience in spiritual warfare will teach us when simply not thinking about the issue is the best approach. It often is.

Remember: "Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8 NLT)."
