When Satan Gets a Foothold—Part 2

Satan will sometimes get a temporary foothold and your emotions will suffer. This is part 2 of a two part series on how to deal with this issue.

Once you've become more experienced and knowledgeable, a simpler process is usually sufficient.

There are two basic steps for restoring your peace once you've come under a spiritual attack. In order to ensure your peace is restored, you usually need to do both.

First: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 NASB)."

"Be anxious for nothing" is a command, not a suggestion.

Don't worry. Just bring the issue to God in prayer, with thanksgiving. Listen for anything God might reveal to you. Apply Scripture to the situation, as appropriate.

If the situation is perplexing, surrender the entire issue to God. Let God manage the situation. Wait until He makes it clear what to do.

If you feel nervous, but it is not clear why, or what—if anything—needs to be done, just cast your burden on the Lord (Psalm 55:22).

Then go on to the next step.

Second: "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you (Philippians 4:8-9 NASB.)."

Once you've dealt with the situation, it's important not to dwell on it. Instead, you now need to refocus your attention on something positive in order for your peace to be restored.

Here are some suggestions: 1) Worship: Listen to Christian music and/or sing praises to God. 2) Think about five things you can thank God for. And thank Him. 3) Love God. 4) Praise God. 5) Just think about good things.

That's all you usually have to do. The two Scriptures can and should be memorized.

Sometimes an even simpler process is needed. Be sure to read When Satan Gets a Foothold—Part 3.
