Athlete's Foot: A Cure For
Dry, Cracked, Itchy Feet

Athlete's foot (tinea pedis) is a fungal infection of the skin that causes scaling, flaking, and itching of affected areas. It is typically transmitted in moist areas where people walk barefoot, such as showers or bathhouses. Although the condition typically affects the feet, it can spread to other areas of the body, including the groin.1

I used to have a never ending foot problem. The skin on the bottom of my feet was always dry, cracked and itchy. It was Athlete's Foot.

I would go to doctors who told me to use antifungal medications. These expensive medications would clear up the infection and then I'd stop using them. Then, the skin on the bottom of my feet would again become dry, cracked and itchy. The fungal infection had returned. This was a never ending cycle.

Until I figured out a solution on my own.

Two things worked..

First: I now use Aloe Vera for fungal infections. I grow Aloe Vera in my yard.

You can apply the Aloe Vera gel directly to the fungal infection. You can also put the Aloe Vera in a blender along with some water. Then apply the liquid to your feet.

Second: I put lotion on the bottoms of my feet when needed. I usually do this at bedtime. I sleep barefoot most of the year.

Any lotion will work—if you use it every day. However, I found one that works better than the others. It works faster. And once your skin is no longer dry and cracked, you won't have to use it every day. The best commercial skin lotion I know of is Aveeno.

I no longer use Aveeno or any other commercial product. Instead, I make a natural hand lotion by slowly melting the following ingredients:

  • 2 Tablespoons Beeswax.
  • 2 Tablespoons Cocoa Butter.
  • 1 Cup Olive Oil.

Pour the mixture into a container. It will harden after it cools.

Except for the olive oil, the proportions provided are approximate as I've never really measured beeswax or cocoa butter.

Other natural lotion recipes are available on the internet.

You might want to try these things.

Notes: 1) I have no medical training. So consult with your doctor first and before making any changes. 2) It is still necessary to take standard precautions to prevent acquiring Athlete's Foot. 3) Not all 'natural' products are safe. Some can cause medical issues that will require a visit to the doctor. Do your research and look carefully at the ingredients.
