Who is God?Many people have different ideas about God. Only the Bible tells the truth about who God is, what He is like, what He requires of us and what He has done. The God of the Bible is the one and only true God (Isaiah 45:5). Although He is only one God, He exists in three persons: God the Father. Jesus the Son. And the Holy Spirit. That is why the God of the Bible is referred to as a triune God (Matthew 28:19, Luke 3:21-22). This is something that the Bible affirms is true, though we, as humans, do not have the ability to fully understand it. This doctrine of one God that exists in three persons is known as the trinity. It is documented in Scripture from the very beginning: "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness' (Genesis 1:26 NASB)." "And the Lord God said, 'The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil' (Genesis 3:22 NIV)." God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1) and these reflect his glory (Psalm 19:1-4). God created man in His own image (Genesis 1:26-27) and values him more than other creatures (Matthew 10:31). God is righteous (Isaiah 45:19) and holy (Isaiah 6:1-3). Nothing happens that God does not allow to happen (Matthew 10:29). God knows everything about us and is always with us wherever we go (Psalm 139:1-18). God has an interest in every one of us and we can have a personal relationship with Him (Acts 17:24-30). God does not want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9), but is willing to save anyone who comes to Him by faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:16). God can do anything; nothing is too hard for Him (Genesis 18:14). God is vastly more intelligent and righteous than man (Isaiah 55:8-9). We do not have the ability to fully understand Him (1 Corinthians 13:12). |
