Don't Avoid Anyone At Church"In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets." {Matthew 7:12 NASB} "Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; it keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails . . ." {1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NASB} "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, {Hebrews 12:5-6 NASB} I was having a good day at church, socializing with friends and ministry co-workers. I was even taking on another role as a church greeter. Then everything went south. There was a man at church, who, in the past, was unjustifiably irritable with me. And this person came, again, to church. The first time I encountered this person, as a church greeter, I said 'hi' to him as with anyone else. He did not respond. So, the next time I noticed him walking toward the church, as I was a greeter, I made an effort to avoid him, walking away from my station as he entered the church. I don't know whether he noticed this or not. God noticed. My emotions were messed up for the rest of the day—and then some. Purposely avoiding someone, at church, is an affront. Don't do this. Even if they avoid you. Your emotions will suffer if you do. After prayer, and wise counsel, things became clear. If I want to work as a church greeter, I have to greet everyone, including those I don't like. |
