How to Hate Evil

"Love must be free of hypocrisy. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good." {Romans 12:9 NASB}

"Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good." {Romans 12:9 NKJV}

"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." {Romans 12:9 NIV}

It is important for Christians to avoid entertaining evil thoughts—in any context.

Two suggestions:

First, recite Scripture:

  • "I will set nothing wicked before my eyes . . ." {Psalms 101.3 NKJV}
  • ". . . whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right . . . think about these things." {Philippians 4:8 NASB}

Second, use affirmations:

  • I want to be a good person.
  • I want nothing to do with wickedness.
  • I want nothing to do with evil.
  • Do not be double-minded. {Psalm 119:113}

Try these. Then think about something else.
