Stick With the Issue at Hand
When a conflict arises, it's best to stick with the issue at hand.
I had a family member who recently made an offensive comment: "The only person who appreciates your sense of humor is you!"
Reality check:
- Her statement is untrue.
- This person has a long history of making abrasive comments—though she is doing much better than in her earlier years.
I responded immediately: "That was offensive."
I didn't say anything about past issues.
She recognized her error and apologized.
