How to Cast a Burden—Part 2
"Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken (Psalm 55:22 NASB)."
"Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him (1 John 5:14-15 NKJV)."

I once had a touchy situation as to whether or not to say something in regard to what another person had said. The person hadn't really said anything wrong, but it touched on a sensitive area and bothered me nonetheless. I felt uncomfortable and was unable to break free. It was a spiritual attack.
My best judgement was to simply allow God to carry the burden and say nothing. So I 'cast my burden on the Lord' and trusted God to carry the burden. Nothing happened; I still felt uncomfortable.
My judgement was correct: It was not appropriate for me to say anything in this particular situation. And it was appropriate to simply allow God to carry the burden. So why didn't it work?
I found out about an hour later: I again 'cast my burden on the Lord,' but this time I also surrendered the problem to God. I told God I'd do whatever He said to do. Or not do. The emotional impact of the comment immediately diminished, leaving only residual tension. It became clear that God was now carrying the burden. And that He didn't want me to say anything.
I never did say anything to this person. There was no reason to. But I learned an important biblical lesson: If you want God to carry your emotional burden, you should also surrender the issue to Him. And be willing to do whatever He says to do. Or not do.
