How to Cast a Burden—Part 3

"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up (James 4:10 NIV)."

I had a situation where an angry individual resulted in Satan getting a spiritual foothold in my life. The situation lasted, for the most part, over two days. I tried all the usual things, but the relief I received was only temporary; the anxiety kept coming back. The anxiety was not so bad that I couldn't function. But it was very uncomfortable.

If I had to do it over again, I would have handled the situation differently; but I was caught off guard: This person's anger came out of the blue. This happened while I was participating as a volunteer at a church ministry. But God used the situation to teach me—and now you—a valuable lesson.

As I said, I did the usual things. I made a persistent effort to forgive, to love my neighbor, to rebuke the devil in the name of Jesus and to cast this emotional burden on the Lord. In casting my burden on the Lord, I remembered that it is important to surrender the issue to God. And I told God that I'd do whatever he said to do.

I received no guidance from God. And this did not work.

It wasn't until I told God that I couldn't emotionally handle this burden that God intervened. Then, and only then, did God intervene. And the foothold went away.

"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up (James 4:10 NIV)."

I still had to do the usual things to prevent the foothold from becoming re-established.
