Stopping Spiritual Attacks—Part OneSpiritual attacks are the result of spiritual warfare. This is a challenge every Christian will face. These attacks consist of the following:
There is no way to stop Satan from putting unwanted thoughts into your mind, but you can avoid entertaining these thoughts. And there is no way to completely eliminate disturbing emotions, but you can diminish the disturbance that you experience. This is Part One of a series on effective ways of dealing with unwanted thoughts and disturbing emotions. The series will teach you how to resist demonic attacks. It is recommended that you read the entire series. Part One is a quick overview. There are five points. First: "Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray." {James 5:13 NASB} Pray when you come under spiritual attacks:
Second: Recite Scripture: Examples:
"For the word of God is living and active . . ." {Hebrews 4:12 NASB} Third: Use affirmations and reminders based on Scripture. Examples: " . . . do not worry . . . " {Matthew 6:25 NIV}} Affirmation: I'm not going to worry about this. ". . . whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right . . . think about these things." {Philippians 4:8 NASB} Reminder: Don't think about people you don't like. Then, think about something else. Fourth: "Fix your eyes on Jesus." {Hebrews 12:2 paraphrase} Picture Jesus and focus on Him. This can be especially effective. Finally: Claim God's promises. "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." {John 14:27 NKJV} Example: "Lord, you said 'my peace I give to you.' I claim your promise. I believe I have your peace." Note: Using any two items is more effective. A link to Part Two is below. |
