"The entrance of thy words giveth light (Psalm 119:130)."

Why is Salvation Necessary?

The short answer is this: sin separates us from God. To bridge this gap, we all need a Savior. Jesus died on the cross to bear the penalty for our sins (past, present and future). What follows is some Scriptures for you to contemplate.

"In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days (i.e. today) he has spoken to us by his Son (Jesus), whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe (Hebrews 1:1-2 NIV)."

"Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone--an image made by man's design and skill. In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent (Acts 17:29-30 NIV)."

Thus, in our day, we who have heard the gospel are commanded to ask forgiveness of our sins and accept Jesus as our Savior.

It is always beneficial to do what God tells us to do. Here are four reasons why salvation is essential.

The first reason is to enable you to get to heaven. No one is good enough to get to heaven as a result of his or her own merits. The Bible is clear on this point: "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23 NKJV)." "There is none righteous, not even one (Romans 3:10 NASB)." In summary, "the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6.23 NKJV)." You have to be saved in order to get to heaven. You will not get there any other way.

The second reason is to avoid being condemned to hell. After Jesus had risen from the dead, He stated: "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned (Matthew 16: 15-16 NIV)."

The third reason is to make it possible for you to really understand Scripture: "But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised (1 Corinthians 2:14 NASB)."

The fourth reason to get saved is to enable you to overcome whatever mental health issues you are struggling with. God can also help with physical healing.

Jesus stated: "I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly (John 10:10 NKJV)." Once you become saved, you will find that the Holy Spirit is living inside of you. The Holy Spirit will enable you to understand and use the Bible in a way that you cannot if you are unsaved.

You will find that you will be able understand spiritual realities and overcome problems that you could not while you were still unsaved.

The Holy Spirit helps you as you trust God, obey God, pray and apply Scripture.
