A Checklist for Anxiety & Depression
Here's the checklist:
- Get saved. This is always the first step.
- Read a full chapter of the Bible every day.
- Focus on the New Testament, Psalms & Proverbs.
- Forgive those who have wronged you.
- "Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]" {John 14:27 AMPC}
- Instead, trust God.
- And act like you trust God.
- Confess & forsake sin {1 John 1:9}
- Trust and obey.
- Do what is necessary to stop abuse or get out of these situations. This will usually involve some risk.
- "You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy." {Leviticus 19:2 NASB}
- Avoid masturbation.
- Don't entertain wicked thoughts and don't engage in wicked behaviors. These result in anxiety (Proverbs 23:7, 28:1, Isaiah 48:22). They also create an impediment to your prayers being answered (Psalm 66:18).
- Stay in fellowship; it's important to have other Christians praying for you. They can also provide necessary assistance.
- Seek out wise Christian counsel, when needed.
- As a general rule, don't use psychotropic medication. Psychotropic medication makes it impossible to learn to rely on Scripture to regulate your emotions.
- Your thought life is very important.
- ". . . whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right . . . think about these things." {Philippians 4:8 NASB}
- Stop spiritual attacks.
More information is available on this website. But this is a quick synopsis of what is needed.
